The FIU Performance Ensemble
Open Class color guard auditions wil be held on Sunday, October 11th, from 9:30AM
to 6:00PM. Auditions will be held at Top Gun Cheerleading Gym, 13135 SW 124
Ave #101, Miami. Cost is $30 to attend. Wear all black dance attire/clothes
and bring your own weapons. Flags will be provided. Registration is at 9:30,

The Falcon Sound
Invitational Marching Band Festival will be held on Saturday October
3rd at Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines. Thirty bands are expected to
participate in this 7th annual festival.

The SFWGA is excited to announce we have partnered with Alliance
Media to produce the DVD package for the SFWGA 30th Anniversary Championship
Pageant to be held on March 27, 2010. In addition to the Championship performances,
Alliance Media will be digitally remastering and making available on DVD, highlights
from the full 30-year history of the SFWGA.

The Summer
Rules Caucus for the 2010 season was held on August 23rd at
JP Taravella High School.
7/08/09
Premonition Summer Clinics will
be held on July18th and August 1st at Gloria Dei in Davie. The clinics will
be taught by Premonition staff members Amanda Rehn, Marcus Rankin, Brandin Stratman,
Lisa Goitia, and Shannon Berkstresser. A special dance session at the July 18th
Clinic will feature Amanda Brisbey from Northeast Independent. Cost is $20 per
clinic and includes snacks and drinks. All skill levels are welcome. Classes
will be offered in dance, flag, rifle, and sabre. Click here for directions.

MEDEA awarded South Florida Independent A Gold Medal.
Due to the
participation of an ineligible performer by FIU at the Championship contest,
the former first place winner has been disqualified. The 2009 Gold Medal for
Independent A Class has now been awarded to MEDEA. Gold medals for the MEDEA
performers and staff have been ordered and will be presented to them soon.
Congratulations to MEDEA on their performance!

Yamaha Sounds of Summer Percussion Symposium
will be hosted by Palm Beach Central High School on July 13th through 14th.
This two day camp is open to all 7th
through 12th grade percussionists. Yamaha performing artist Brian Fronzaglia
is the featured clinician. This promises to be a great event for all percussionists,
and entire drum lines are encouraged to participate.
The $75 fee includes lunch, camp t-shirt,
lanyard, and percussion technique book.

The end-of-season General
Membership Meeting was conducted Sunday evening, May 3rd,
at J P Taravella High School. Elections of the Board of Directors were held,
with Diane Hauck joining the Board as Secretary. Diane is currently with West
Broward High School, and was previously with Stoneman Douglas High School. Jeanine
Mielke was elected to the position of 3rd Vice President. Kathy Porter, Gene
Remillet, Nancy Fine, and Louise Cannon will continue in their current roles
of President, 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, and Treasurer, respectively. Elections
of the Advisory Board positions, including the County Representatives, were
deferred until the October 2009 general meeting, pending discussion at the Summer
Caucus on redefining these positions. Read

The end-of-season General
Membership Meeting has been scheduled for Sunday, May 3rd at 6:00
PM. The meeting will be held in the J P Taravella Band Room. Elections of the
Board of Directors and Officers will take place at this meeting. The Summer
Caucus to discuss rules and policy changes for the 2010 Season has been scheduled
for Sunday, August 23rd at 2:00 PM, also in the J P Taravella Band Room.

Spanish River
takes the Silver Medal in WGI Scholastic A Finals with a score of 95.7, and
Flanagan takes the Bronze Medal in WGI Scholastic
World Finals with a score of 93.8. Congratulations to both South Florida Guards!

Pagentry Arts
Concepts, parent organization
of STRYKE, AQUARIUS, and MEDEA, announced it will merge with Teal Sound. The
new organization will field performing units in both the DCI and WGI venues.

The 2009 South
Florida Premier took place last Saturday at Santaluces High School
in Lantana. Standing ovations from the audience went to Flanagan's "Hopelandic"
and Premonition's "Illusion" performances. Once again, the
Special Needs Color Guard of America stole the hearts of the audience with their
performance of "Coming to America" featuring live instrumentation
as well as costumes and flags the performers designed themselves.
1/05/09
All Color Guard and Percussion Judges
commentaries will be digitally recorded and provided to Instructors
and Directors in a digial audio format. Cassette tapes will no longer be used.
To obtain your performance commentaries, show your Instructor ID badge at the
Sound and Tabulation table. The Judges commentaries will be conveniently loaded
into your MP3 player, iPOD, USB flash drive or memory stick. This will make
it easy to listen to commentaries prior to attending Critique, copy and share
commentaries with your entire instructional staff, and even email commentaries
to out of town designers.

The annual Membership
Meeting was held Sunday December 14th at the Westin Hotel in Fort
Lauderdale. If you did not bring in your membership paperwork, you may still
join for the 2009 season by mailing in the Membership Packet. The packet may
be downloaded from the Forms Page. Draw numbers will be posted soon.

The Flanagan
High School Falcon Sound band and color guard will be featured in
the Walt Disney World Christmas Day parade. The parade will air nationally on
ABC on Christmas morning.

The J P Taravella
High School Trojan marching band has been selected to participate
in President Obama's Inauguration Day Parade in Washington DC this coming January.
Selected out of over 1,400 high schools, Taravella is the only high school chosen
to participate in the parade

The SFWGA has released the 2009
Contest Dates and locations. Our upcoming season includes a West
Coast contest at a super-size gym at Palmetto Ridge High School in Naples. See

The WGI Boca
Raton Percussion Regional will be hosted by STRYKE at Boca
Raton High School on March 14th. Registration is now open.

SFWGA President Kathy Porter announced
that the SFWGA will sponsor New Judges Training
for both Color Guard and Percussion beginning
in December, leading to FFJA Certification.

Florida Championships has been set. The grand finale of the South
Florida Winter Guard and Percussion season will take place on Saturday, March
28th, at Barbara Goleman High School in Miami.

Our Premier Contest will be held on Saturday, January 24th, at Santaluces High
School in Lantana.

Lauderdale Regional will be hosted by Flanagan High School. The Regional
